Dogs & Cats from

outside the Quintinha

These lovely doggies have all been rescued and need to find a home so they do not have to live in a shelter.

Please contact us if you think you might be able to help.

Please have a look at the photos below. These dogs are at the municipal kennel in Setubal. If you can rescue a dog from this canil (or another canil) and foster it, SOS will take on the responsibility of rehoming and vet costs.

The puppies and small dogs can be rehomed most easily and we can probably confirm a home for them almost immediately (and a possible travel date for a new home would be in October).  Medium or larger dogs are harder and you may end up fostering for longer.

So please, if you have the space and the time to help rescue a needy animal become active and involved.

PIPO is a two to three year old male who was rescued from the streets one year ago. He is very friendly, housetrained, good on the lead, outgoing and playful. He had been living in a temporary home since rescued and until he got well due to a paw injury (now all healed). Now that he is all better he is a little too active for their very elderly male dog and is presently at Merry Legs boarding kennels. He has tested negative for leish and heartworm, is neutered and vaccinated. For more information please contact Laura 927921635 or Everlyne 918915625.

CHARLIE is a large less than one year old male (soon to be neutered). He is very friendly, and has been living on an apartment terrace with little exercise so at the moment he is loving his new life with freedom and exercise. He is very inquisitive and wants to say hello to everyone. He is playful, energetic and good with other dogs. This time Charlie would love a home with a garden and possibly a playmate where he can run around and expel his energy.

JAZZ is an 18 month old very gentle natured female. She was tied to the gates on the main road and has been staying with Barbara since mid-July. She is excellent with other dogs and I think ok with cats but will get confirmation on this.

Jazz arrived with another small dog called Hip Hop who only has three legs. (She was staying by Jazz's side even though Jazz was tied up on main road). They are best friends and did not separate for a long time. Now that they are feeling more comfortable with their foster we feel it would be ok to separate them.

They have either recently been spayed or are soon to be spayed.  They have tested negative for leish and heartworm.

JAVA needs a home. She has been in foster care since early July. She is a lovely medium to large sized spayed female (weighs 20 kilos), very friendly, loving, extra gentle and easy natured. She is less than a year old (born Nov 2009). She is playful (even likes to play chase) and gets along excellently with other dogs. She is house trained and well behaved inside (only chewing dog toys) and responds very well to her name.

She is staying with a foster who rescues many many dogs and needs to find Java a home.  Please contact Laura 927 921 635 or Jan 968044115.

JIM is a 3 year old male shepherd cross. He showed up in my driveway and is now staying with me. Early days yet, but I think he comes from a home. He was wearing a collar, is toilet trained, and very friendly. Seems to know his commands. He is extremely skinny and malnourished but has tested negative for leish and is on the road to recovery.

VALENTINO's situation has now become urgent.

He is a lovely extra large four year old neutered male dog who is very loving and kind. He was in a home until recently, but unfortunately it was not fenced and he would like to run away and chase sheep  (as most large dogs will) but his owners very sadly were unable to keep him. He has since been living at a boarding kennels but he is a very energetic dog and is not getting the exercise that he needs. While he got along well with all dogs to start, now he seems to be getting grumpy and only likes the female doggies. He still remains excellent, friendly and loving with people and children and is very gentle natured. But we are unsure how long he will now be able to stay at the boarding kennel.  We believe that Valentino has leish, but he has received treatment, the disease is controlled, and all he needs to live a happy healthy and normal life is a pill every day.

If you know of anyone who may be interested in adopting Valentino please contact 927 921 635.

BUTTER is a large less than one year old female. She is a little bit timid, would do well in a quieter home, but gets along with other dogs and is very loving. She is presently at a boarding kennel.

HENRY & DORA are two pure Shar peis. They are both fit and healthy and in need of a new home. Dora is a 7 year old female and Henry is a three year old male. While they are not at the shelter, they cannot stay where they are presently living and their situation is urgent.

MAX: about 5 years old, Max is a cross between a German Shepherd and a Husky; he is very friendly and docile and loves the outdoors and open spaces; he has no problems with any other dogs but doesn't get along with cats! He is looking for a good home with lots of space or for someone who will give him plenty of long walks. Please contact Avi on 916 055 551 or 289 845 309 or email avi@360vt.org.

PATOLAS .......                             PETRONAS .........                        FUCAS .........

These three dogs are living in Lagos, but their owner is moving to an apartment and cannot take them with him. They are all around 2 years old, very docile and have had a great life so far - please help and ensure that they continue to be happy dogs! Patolas and Fucas are pure Rafeiros Alentejanos.

JACK, ANNIE (male) & TAFFY (female) all need to be re-homed together, if possible. They have been with their owners since they were kittens and are now nearly 9 years old. They have to be re-homed for reasons of the owner's health, but this is done with great reluctance. Jack is white/grey striped; he has feline AIDS but is otherwise healthy and is not on any medication. All three are very affectionate and love to be cuddled. They all sleep together in the evenings, have all been spayed / neutered and are up-to-date with all vaccinations etc. Please contact Ingrid on 011-351-918-973-896 (Portugal Mob) or 001-203-461-4649 (US mob).
