Dogs in Foster Care

HALEY is a lovely lab sized female, 18 months to 2 years. She was at the shelter since she was a two month old puppy. She was always very outgoing and friendly to people in the shelter and always wanted attention. As they did not get walked while at the shelter, when she first left the shelter she was so scared she just lay down outside the gates and would not move (see the photo or her curled up)! Which is why we were really happy to get her a foster carer who has taken the proper time with her to get her used to living in the real world. She is now doing really well, loves cuddles, attention, and is a very happy gentle dog. She is living with cats (who she still finds just a little bit scary), and another dominant dog. She is also very good with children. She has tested negative for leish and heartworm. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

BELLA (previously called Princess) found a home abroad in March. Very sadly she tested positive for heartworm and another dog went to that home in her place. She found a loving foster family who have cared for her and she is now completely well and healthy. She is house trained, she walks well on the lead, she is even excellent with cats, kittens and children. She loves people and is very eager to please. She has loved living in a home and having attention. Unfortunately, she does like to escape and kill the neighbour’s chickens, so now that she is well she needs to find a home (preferably with a fence) or she will have to go back to the shelter.
She is a loving, calm and gentle dog who deserves a place of her own and will be a rewarding addition to any family.
She is a large two year old female. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She tested negative for leish and now tests negative for heartworm.
Small

BELLA is a very pretty female about two years old. However, she does need special care as she was not given much attention for most of her life and is now not so friendly with people.
Other small dogs are available and elsewhere.
Medium

SHIRLEY: she is medium sized female, very sweet natured and playful. She has lost her sight in one eye, but it does not bother her and she is a happy gentle natured girl who walks well on the lead, and we think is good with cats.
FLOSSIE is a medium sized older female who is friendly and affectionate. She loves walking on the lead and rubbing her face on you for stroking. She has been at the shelter far too long and would love a home and bed to call her own.

KIKI & NIKI: medium sized and thought to be sisters, they are close to one year old. They are very friendly and playful. Niki measures 48 cm and Kiki 53 cm (Kiki has a bit more white than Niki). They both love attention. They are thought to have been at the shelter since they were puppies, so are just now learning to walk on the lead.

HOP is a 3 year old medium sized male. He was brought to the shelter in February. He had a very bad injury to his leg (which is why we called him Hop), looked like he had been hit by a car, and was extremely skinny. He is much better now, we think his leg will be fine in a few more months, and he can use his leg, but he may never be a dog who is able to go on extra long walks. He is extremely friendly and affectionate and has a wonderful nature. But we think he had a very hard life before coming to the shelter, as for only being at the shelter for a few months, he was quite scared when taken for his first walk! But, he has now gotten much better. He is vaccinated and microchipped, and has tested negative for leish and heartworm.

YAYA 2 (pen 6): is an extremely playful and energetic two to three year old female. She is medium sized and will follow people around everywhere in the shelter to get as much love and attention from people as she can. She has tested positive for leish.

PETER is a gentle medium-sized boy who used to have a home but has since been living outside of the shelter gates. He has been there for far too long and because no one seems to pay him any attention he is not used to coming up to you. But, with a little persuasion and a lot of treats he is very friendly and will then happily trot along on a lead.
ASHLEE (pen 7): is a medium-sized five year old spayed female, thought to be a beagle cross. She loves affection and having her tummy rubbed really makes her day. She has one of the nicest natures and has had a home before. On her walks Ashlee is excellent, she is excitable, loving, boisterous and well behaved. She also loves to run. She measures 55 cm.

LINDSEY (pen 6): is a medium-sized three to four year old female. She is very friendly and is excellent with all dogs. She would love to have a family and home of her own. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped, and tested negative for leish and heartworm. She is 52 cm.
Large

STEFFY is a medium 10 month old female. Very friendly, extra intelligent and loyal and she will make a super companion and guard dog but not for rehoming to families who are inexperienced with this character. She was found wandering the streets and due to the urgency of the situation has been taken in. She has tested negative for leish and heartworm.

NODDY: an extra large 1 to 2 year old very friendly female who seems to be getting on well with all the dogs at the shelter. She was recently brought in by the Sao Bras camara and due to the urgency of her situation she is now at the shelter. She is negative for leish and heartworm.

BENNIE: is a beautiful large three year old female who only has one eye. She is timid, but gentle, and with a caring family will become loving and loyal.

JOE: is a large female pointer mix. About two to three years old and very friendly. She loves attention and is always one of the first dogs to come up to visitors.
GEMMA (pen 7) is a large 5 year old spayed female. She loves affection, is good with all dogs, and would love to be taken for walks by her new owner. She has the most kind face to look at and is a very happy girl who would be incredibly easy and loving in a home. Sadly we believe she may have leish, a disease that is treatable but not curable.

LUKE (pen 7): a large tan male about two years old. He is very playful, a bit wary of people as he had been in an area of the shelter where he did not have many visitors, and likes to bark a little.

HELEN: a lovely five year old large female. She is very affectionate and kind, and very well behaved, happy and loving on the lead. She is spayed, vaccinated and micrcochipped, and has tested negative for leish and heartworm. She is 58 cm.
